Overview

While we were watching our borders, ports of entry and critical infrastructure, the enemy infiltrated our trusted institutions. Schools, government, and corporations became the puppets of a most unlikely foe: the Molemen. Though we had fought them, repelled them, before, the sheer secrecy of that secret war gave them an advantage…again. Though their operation took years to implement, the execution ended in days.

We fought them…fought them hard, but they had everything, even the minds of our children. Still, after initial setbacks we drove them back. Though they controlled the South, we held the mountains, most of the breadbasket plains, and claimed the Northwest, though it was mostly a wasteland. Others, possibly waiting for the Molemen to make their move or taking advantage of their success, took the North and Southwest.

After a generation or more of chaos, things stabilized, reached a détente. Borders solidified, revolution in some regions turned whole communities in police states, and some enemies turned into reluctant allies. And then came the second invasion. The only good thing about the attack was that the invaders were the mortal enemies of the Molemen. The bad news: They took most of the rest of the world. Who were they? Some said they had left, traveled to another dimension a hundred years ago or more. Others said they never really left. Everyone agreed, however, that these creatures were more insidious than the Molemen and their Croc minions. They were called the Junkmen, Wanderers, Mechanical Horrors…The Hoboes.

Where are the Heroes?

Outlawed in the early days, superheroes were ruthlessly hunted by traitors of their own kind. Some believe this was when Molemen influence first began to be felt. By the time their invasion started, even the hunters were gone. There were whispers, occasionally, of a hero emerging either from hiding or elsewhere, but these were quickly overwhelmed.

What few know is that some heroes are hidden away, asleep, waiting for the one that will awaken them. That one, the enigmatic Seer, has returned and it is systematically finding where they sleep and waking them up.
